About me

About Sonia’s hungry heart

I’m a Canadian woman, living in Montreal. Movement is my medicine. From walking, hiking, running, cycling, weight training, and yoga, I embrace the joy of movement. That wasn’t always the case though. It took a fall from a bike to wake me up to the fact that I was woefully out of shape and that I wanted to change that. The fall got me thinking about self-improvement. Today, fitness is an essential part of life. It’s non-negotiable.  Not only has fitness made me stronger physically, but it also keeps me sane! As a bonus, I have met some awesome people who have inspired me, challenged me, taught me, and most of all believed in me. And that, to me, is what life is all about – surrounding myself with amazing people and sharing fun times.

On the career side, I’ve worked in education for many years. There have been some amazing career moments, but also, I’ve suffered some big lows. At one point, I was ready to quit and walk away. Instead, I dug deep and reinvented my career. I learned that the only way to be happy anywhere was to be me. If I’m changing my behaviour to please others, I’m not doing anyone any favours. Creating this blog not only gave me a boost of self-confidence, but I also learned some essential skills which allowed me to update my business degree and get a great marketing job. Looking back, I can say that everything worked out for a reason. These lessons have served me well and have carried me onto new adventures.

I started this blog to share my experiences as I walked part of the Camino de Compostela in 2016. I made the pilgrimage as an homage to my parents. My mom was born not far from Santiago, so the walk took on a special significance. The trip changed me in ways I can’t even explain. I feel a sense of inner calm that I’ve never felt. My hope is to one day walk the entire Camino Frances.

Some of my passions:

In addition to staying active, my other passions include hanging out with my loved ones, travelling, cooking (and eating!) enjoying awesome music, reading, learning, and trying new things. The title for the blog was inspired by my favourite performer: Bruce Springsteen. I have been a fan of the Boss since I was 16 years old. His lyrics, music, performances, and social conscience are inspiring. I do have a hungry heart: hungry to learn, hungry to make a difference in someone’s life.

I came to the blogging world a little late. My aim with this blog is to share adventures and misadventures as I navigate my life. I’m ready for this. Bring it on!
