Mindfulness and the thief

Are we losing our connection to each other by burying our faces behind our screens? Are we missing our on life because we don’t look up from our phones? Why are so we so attached to our devices? How can we be mindful when we have our face buried in a screen? I’ve been thinking

Part of being more mindful has also meant re-evaluating how I use social media. I want to cut down on my phone use, particularly my use of social media. I've adopted some new habits, designed to curb my phone use and I'm very happy with the results. New blog post is up. Link in bio.
In the meantime, I'm looking forward to another summer at the lake, my happy place. The snow and ice have finally melted and soon it'll be time to take out the kayak.

March 7 is one of my favourite days of the year because it's the anniversary of my family arriving in Canada. It feels like a second birthday. I often think of my parents' courage as they moved their young family to start over at 40 and 50 years old in a new country, where they didn't speak the language.I can't begin to imagine what my life would have been like had we not immigrated. I know with near certainty that I never would have the opportunity to pursue higher education, which is something I dreamed of since I was tiny. Canada might not be perfect, but it's pretty darn close. After work I headed out to catch the day's last rays and to soak in some gratitude.I've been feeling inspired lately and as a result I've been jotting down some thoughts. I should have something ready to post by the weekend. ... See MoreSee Less

I don't miss much about my youth. I don't see the point of living in the past. There is, however, one thing I really miss about my younger years. I miss the sleep of my youth. I used to be able to fall asleep anywhere and sleep through just about anything. Those days are long gone. A recent conversation with a dear friend got me thinking about sleep and that lead to this new blog post. www.soniashungryheart.com/tips-for-dealing-with-insomnia/ ... See MoreSee Less

A swimming lesson update. I took lessons all winter, but what I was really looking forward to was swimming in my little lake as I'm not a fan of chlorine. My kids recommended that I reach out to the amazing Kim A L'Eau Natationu NatationI did just that and booked lessons with her. Kim comes to the lake which is so wonderful because I get to practice where I will be swimming. Kim has a TON of experience and qualifications. She's a great teacher and she's a hoot, which is a big plus. 😊Two lessons in, and I have learned new things and I feel more comfortable. What a great feeling. ... See MoreSee Less
